Step 1: Cleanse (AM/PM)
Always, always wash your face both in the morning and night. Going to bed with all the dirt and grime from the day can be detrimental to your skin. Wear a lot of makeup? Be sure to remove it with a makeup remover first.
Use lukewarm water. Hot water pulls moisture from your skin. When looking for a cleanser, look for one without acidic properties like salicylic acid. Although great in the summer when your skin is oilier, it'll overdry your skin in the winter! Skin super oily? Try using a cleanser with salicylic acid (ingredient content should NEVER exceed 2%) in the day and use one without during the night.
*Skin Saver Tip: Dry skin can also cause break-outs!
Step 2: Tone (AM/PM)
A lot of skincare experts find this step unnecessary to a girlie's routine. Why it’s so important: This step lifts away any residue that ya might have missed in cleansing. Our skin is a complex palate, and it’s not always easy to clean deep down into the pores. Toners will help prevent dirt from getting trapped under your skin. If you wear a lot of makeup or have oily/acne prone skin, this is a must-do! When shopping for a toner, look for ones without alcohol. Alcohol tends to dry out your skin.

Step 4: Moisturize (AM/PM)
This step is SOO essential in winter, even for ya gals with super-oily skin. Here’s a general tip: Most girlies with normal/combination skin like to use an oil-free moisturizer in the summer and oil-based moisturizer in the winter. Skin super oily? Buy moisturizers that are oil-free. (It should be labeled on the front of the bottle.) Super dry? Replace your night lotion with a cream. Creams are heavier than lotions and help replenish and retain your skin’s moisture better.
Don’t over moisturize. Apply a normal amount, get dressed, do your hair and have some breakfast. If your skin still feels dry and taut, then apply as needed. Your skin should NEVER feel dry! Also, don’t skimp on the SPF. Always have a minimum of SPF 15 in your moisturizers. UV rays can still damage your skin in the winter.

*Skin Saver Tip: The best way to keep your body moisturized is to drink plenty of water. 8 glasses of water a day keeps the winter blues away!
Step 5: Spot Treatments
Spot treatments are vital for winter. Using a treatment for your whole face when you only need it for a few spots on your skin can leave other blemish-free spots irritated and dry. Instead of using your normal acne treatment from summer, switch to using spot treatments. This way you target only your problem areas without disturbing the rest of your skin.
