Back to Class! 6 Ways to Put Your New Holiday Beauty Gifts to Use

Don't let those makeup goodies collect dust under your tree.

Bring your holiday makeup gifts to your school's hallways ASAP!

You've long since upgraded your holiday wishlist from toys to beauty tools. And now that you've received everything you've asked for, it's time to put the goods to use!
We hope you played with your new products over the holiday vacation, but we're here to tell you that the fun doesn't end there.
There's no need to keep your gifts in safekeeping until the weekend, and you don't have to make excuses for wearing your cool new colors to class. After all, no good product should be kept a secret!
Here are six ways to make your makeup appropriate for class.

Those makeup brushes.

If a brand new batch of brushes made their way in your stocking this year, either someone close to you spied those worn-down bristles caught in the zipper of your makeup bag, or you added them to the top of your list (because naturally, you were tired of the worn-down bristles getting caught in the zipper of your makeup bag). Either way, thank heavens they made it into your possession because the old set was taking a toll on your skin. Face the days ahead of you by applying your makeup with your new brushes, but extend their lifespan this time by avoiding double-dipping them into your foundation bottle after applying to your skin, and cleanse them at least once a month laying them flat to dry (as to not loosen the glue that holds the bristles together). Fresh, even, healthy complexion, here you come!

That shadow palette.

No need to wait for a special occasion to put your new eye shadows to use. Depending on the colors you've got, swipe the most natural shade, like a champagne or gold, along your brow bone and pop a darker shade on your top lids, closer to your lash lines. This way, you'll be appropriate for class but your peers will see the hints of color as you look down to take notes.

Those colorful liners.

Break open that pack of new eye liners as if you just received a whole new case of art supplies because a bold pop of color on your lids is the new red lip! Trace your waterline with a teal liner like models at Giles this season, or create a green cat eye starting at the center of your top lids and winging outward like models seen at Chanel (pictured above).

Those lipsticks.

Toss your new lip collection into your pocket or bookbag for mid-class, between classes, and after-lunch touch-ups. For test days, we'd recommend sticking with the nudes to avoid bright lip colors rubbing off as you gnaw at your nails, pens, or pencils—stop that! Then again, if you're conscious of smudging your lipstick, perhaps it'll keep you from giving into those terrible habits…

That do-all compact.

Whether you're in love with your new palette for its multi-tasking capabilities (it's got shadows, and lipsticks, and blush, oh my!), or its eye-candy casing, we encourage you to keep it in your locker. All your products are in one perfect place, and you can touch up between classes. The oohs and ahs will echo all day.

That new perfume.

Any scent can be worn as a signature—in moderation. Dab your new fragrance behind your ears, along your collarbone, behind your knees and any other place that heats up naturally throughout the day. Your friends will instantly get a whiff when you're hugging after your time off, and your perfume will be the first topic of conversation as you start catching up. (A word of advice? Practice the pronunciation beforehand if it's a fancy brand.)
